Modifications

  • If student is sensitive to smells, allow him/her to sit near open window, or well ventilated area.
  • Use visual explanations and prompts to prepare student for what to expect in different reactions and experiments e.g. loud noises, odours, changes in colours.
  • Provide standard seat, or allow student to stand, if he/she cannot tolerate the high stool.
  • Provide quieter area for student to work in a group, away from the distracting noises of other groups.
  • Control noise levels during group discussions.

Supports

  • Ensure regular breaks from the classroom to prevent sensory overload and to support attention and engagement.
  • Use of ear defenders/ ear plugs as and when required.
